2012 AGM & BBQ

This years event will be held on Saturday 28th April.  There will be the normal meeting with food and sailing afterwards.  Booking forms will be sent out with your next Friends magazine so don't forget to book early for your place for this great event.  As it's our 80th year it feels even more special so we look forward to seeing you there!

2012 Two day Sails

Fancy sailing but don't want to sail yourself or sleep on one of the cabins, then why not come on this fantastic event and let Philip and Neil do all the work for you?!

This year will be the third running of your two day skippered sails in these beautiful wooden yachts. We have decided that our sails this year will be on the River Bure because of its adaptability to the vagaries of the Norfolk weather. There is more scope to sail when the wind is blowing as we have more room to move in than on The Ant and the options for “ports of call” for lunch and the important evening meals and Bed and Breakfast establishments is very well served on this part of The Norfolk Broads.

Sailing dates are:  Saturday, 26th May - Friday, 1st June booking is essential please.  There are still a couple of places left so don't miss out book now!

As before Philip and Neil will be sailing Hustler’s with dinghies in tow, giving us the flexibility to anchor off and row across to the Staithe’s.

Programme

  • Day 1
    • 1000: meeting at Hunters Yard at one of the Hustler yachts and preparing them for sail
    • 1100: setting sail down Womack Water to the Thurne and The Bure.
    • 1300 to 1400: packed lunch (you will need to bring your own) somewhere alongside a bank on the Bure, depending upon the wind strength and direction. We will provide hot drinks from the onboard kettle!
    • 1600 to 1700: arriving at Horning. Philip and Neil will sleep on the Hustler’s and the friends will Bed and Breakfast in Horning which will be organised for you
    • 1930: Evening meal in one of the restaurants in Horning or at The Swan or New Inn
  • Day 2
    • 1000: meeting at the boats and readying for sail. We shall set off to the yard or sail onto Hoveton Little Broad depending upon the strength of the wind.
    • 1300 to 1400: Lunch at Ranworth or South Walsham. We never quite know where we will have lunch but it is always in a lovely spot
    • 1700 to 1800: back at the yard. We tend to also enjoy an evening meal together unless you need to head off quickly

All this fun on the Broads can be had for only £199.00 per person. This price includes one night’s bed and breakfast.

To book please contact Neil on 07930 910870 or  01455 203167 or email: neil@impalaadventures.co.uk

Friends Autumn Event - Sailing & Picnic

Hunters in Holland trip 2011

For the third consecutive year a trip is being organised for Friends (and fiends of friends) of the Hunter Fleet. Last year a group of over 20 joined for an enjoyable long weekend in the historic town of Enkhuizen to coincide with the International Classic Boat Festival and Exhibition. You will remember the write-up in the spring issue of the Newsletter of the Friends of the Hunter Fleet. And already over a dozen friends have signed-up for this year’s trip.

The dates will be November 2nd returning on November 8th, with 5 full days in Holland and 4 nights accommodation on charter schooners Vriendschap and Zuiderzee. These are moored at the festival site and we can take all our meals on board. The festive atmosphere there is truly nautical, with dozens and dozens large sailing ships moored around and the sea lapping at our feet.

Travel to Holland as last year will be overnight by Harwich – Hook of Holland Stena Hollandica and Stena Brittanica on the return. Both are cruise liner types, new on 2011 and are the largest in the world with comfortable en-suite cabins. In Holland we’ll travel by train to Enkhuizen, which is about 25 miles North of Amsterdam.

Of course, if you prefer you could make your own travel plans, by car or flight from Norwich which has daily flights to Amsterdam. But travelling in the group adds to a relaxed and friendly way getting there, with options to do sightseeing en-route, at Delft, Rotterdam, Gouda, Utrecht, Amsterdam.

Costs will be very modest: Travel will be around £160, 4 night’s B&B accommodation on board the schooners ranging from £120 to £220  depending on single or shared cabins. Dinner on board will cost £15 (so good that no one has ever opted out for on-shore dining).

Unique Sailing Day: We have an option for a full days’ sailing of Zuiderzee, probably visiting one of the historic Hansa ports along the coast, Stavoren, Medemblik or perhaps the fishing port of Urk. We can crew ourselves and the cost for this will be an extra £50pp.

More information: Look at www.klassieke-schepen.nl for information on the Festival and the accommodation ships, choose English language version.

We will be in Holland long enough to make day trips to other areas and towns: Volendam and Marken are next door, Amsterdam just 45 minutes away. With sufficient interest we could choose to hire a mini-bus.
