Hunters Yard, Ludham, Norfolk, where Percy Hunter's unique fleet
of traditional, wooden, 1930's sailing yachts awaits you. The Yard sits in
its own private, secluded dyke in the heart of the world famous inland waterway, known as the Norfolk Broads.
Percy's 'Lovely Ladies' form a fleet of vintage, gaff rigged, fixed keel sloop Yachts equiped with self-tacking jibs. They have no engine or electric power; instead have oil lamps and a gas cooker and enjoy an enviable reputation for their superb sailing
qualities! You really can get away from it all on these girls. However, because of
the lack of engine you will need to have some sailing experience to be able to take
one these 'ole gals' out please.
The 'girls' are even famous! - Lullaby was Teasel in the BBC
production Swallows & Amazons Forever; we still have Teasel's transom
and her dinghy Titmouse here at the Yard. More recently, Wood Rose was used by
Griff Rhys Jones on his programme The Rivers.
Our Yachts are often used in modelling shoots,
specialised sailing publications and are often refered to in the general press.
The Fleet is maintained to an extremely high standard by a small number of skilled and dedicated staff whose collective experience totals well over one hundred years! Hunter's Yard is owned by the Norfolk Heritage Fleet Trust, a charitable trust, established to preserve
the Fleet. The trust is actively supported by a Friends organisation, with a current membership
of over 850 families, established to support the Yard's Fleet of hand built
cabin yachts and wooden half deckers. Percy's 'Lovely Ladies' are very much cherished, loved and admired.
Come, sail our Yachts, feel the wind in your hair, listen to the water lapping against the hull and enjoy the sounds of our adbundant local wildlife as you relive the tranquility and peace of bygone age.
