Keelboat Sailing Courses at Hunter's
Hunter's Fleet Ltd. is a recognised RYA Training Centre. As such, we offer a range of keelboat sailing courses for beginners, intermediate and advanced sailors. All of our Instructors are RYA qualified, CRB/DBS checked, First Aid trained, enthusiastic about teaching people to sail and highly experienced sailing our yachts.

The Types of Sailing Courses Run by Hunter's
RYA Keelboat Level 1 ~ Start Sailing (2 Days)This beginners course is designed as a very practical introduction to sailing where you’ll acquire basic skills and valuable background knowledge, be taught the basics of boat rigging and handling to a level enabling you to sail under supervision
Pre-requisitesNo previous sailing experience required. However, you need have reasonable fitness and be able to swim 50 meters clothed.
Course IncludesRYA Logbook, RYA Keelboat Level 1 (inland) Certificate for successful students
RYA Keelboat Level 2 ~ Basic Skills (3 Days)This course aims to give you the knowledge and experience you need to become a competent keelboat sailor in light winds. You will be introduced to sailing techniques, manoeuvres, rigging, mooring, safety and basic rules of the road. By the end of the course you should be able to sail in light winds without an instructor onboard
Pre-requisitesEither RYA Keelboat/Dinghy Level 1 or prior experience to Level 1 standard

RYA Keelboat Level 3 ~ Better Sailing (2 Days)This Improver Course bridges the gap between the Level 2 Keelboat (Basic Skills) course and the more advanced keelboat Seamanship course. It is intended to make the transition easier for those sailors wishing to progress through the scheme, allowing them opportunity to develop their techniques and gain further experience.
Pre-requisitesRYA Keelboat Level 2 or equivalent knowledge and experience

RYA keelboat Level 1&2 Combined (5 Days)A very practical, and quite intensive, sailing course which aims to train beginners, with no previous experience, or those with very little experience, to a standard where successful students will be able to sail competently and independently in fair conditions
Pre-requisitesNo previous sailing experience required. Students should be reasonably fit and be able to swim 50 meters clothed
Course IncludesRYA Logbook and RYA Level 2 certificate for successful students
RYA Keelboat Seamanship Skills (3 Days)A more advanced course including practical and theory sessions designed to build upon the techniques learnt on the basic skills and better sailing course. You’ll learn all about boat control, solving problems afloat and becoming a more confident and accomplished sailor
Pre-requisitesRYA Keelboat Level 2 or 3 plus additional experience
Course IncludesCertificate for successful students
Introduction to Cabin Yachts (2 Days)This, non RYA, course has been designed to help experienced dinghy or half decker sailors convert to sailing bigger, heavier yachts. The course is run on our gaff-rigged sloop, cabin yachts fitted with self tacking jibs. The course is specifically designed to coach students to competently manage such a yacht on the narrow rivers of the Norfolk Broads
Pre-requisitesStudents should have a reasonable level of experience gained on dinghies, half-deckers, or coastal yachts

RYA Keelboat CourseWe have 'pencilled in' an RYA Keelboat Course starting on the date shown. We can set this course up to meet the needs of our Customers; as a Level 1, Level 2, Level 1&2, Level 3, Seamanship or Cabin Yacht Conversion Course. Learn to Sail Holiday (5 Days)A more flexible way to learn to sail should you be unable to join one of our formal RYA Courses. For a Learn to Sail Holiday, you charter one of our yachts for a week and, in addition, employ one of our RYA Instructors to provide 5 days training for you to complete an RYA Keelboat Level 1&2 Combined Course. At the end of your training you will have two days left to skipper your yacht on your own
NOTES:
- You MAY also need to be supervised, after your course, on the last two days of your charter; dependant upon the predicted weather and your progress on the course

Course IncludesRYA log book, RYA Start Sailing Booklet and RYA Keelboat Level 2 (inland) Certificate for each successful student

Course Times
Our course days run from 9am - 5pm approx. and are mainly non-residential. We use our half-decker fleet but cabin yachts may be used if available.
All prices include instruction at base, boats, provision of safety boat cover, use of buoyancy jackets, books and certificate. (We reserve the right to cancel a course in cases of insufficient numbers)
Individual Instruction
Instructor for RYA Training - £110 per day or £60 for morning session and £50 for afternoon session
Please note: For Individual Instruction, you will need to ADD the cost of your yacht hire (as per our brochure)
Sailing Assistance
We can also provide a skipper to help you get the best from your boat and enjoy the Broads.
A skipper would accompany you during the day, for as many days as you arrange.
This could also include gaining an RYA qualification depending on your requirements.
Sailing Assistance for Groups
If required, we can assist in arranging skippers for group bookings.
This is particularly relevant for schools and youth groups.
