RYA Sail Training with the Norfolk Heritage Fleet

As a Royal Yachting Association (RYA) Training Centre we are able to offer a range of training from the National Sailing Scheme using our Keelboats. RYA Levels 1 & 2 – Combined Beginners Course - £360.00 per person

This is an intensive sailing course delivered over five days, usually commencing on Mondays. The aim of this course is to produce competent sailors who will be able to sail independently in moderate conditions. You will cover sailing techniques and manoeuvres, rigging, safety, reefing afloat, rope work, clothing, equipment, sailing theory and basic 'rules of the road'.  Course Dates:  Monday 30th April or Monday 25th June.


RYA Level 1 – Start Sailing – 2 Days - £190.00 per person

This course is for beginners and requires no previous sailing experience and is delivered over two days. You will gain a basic understanding of boat handling techniques and background knowledge to enable you to get afloat under supervision. This course covers rigging, rope work, knots, clothing, equipment, practical sailing manoeuvres, safety and 'rules of the road'.  Course Dates:  Monday 30th April or Monday 25th June (combined course - first 2 days)


RYA Level 2 – Basic Skills – 3 Days - £250.00 per person

This course builds on the skills and knowledge gained in Level 1 and aims to give you the competence and knowledgeto sail independently in moderate conditions. You will cover safety, reefing afloat, rope work, clothing, equipment, sailing techniques and manoeuvres and 'rules of the road'. Level 1 or equivalent experience is needed first to attend this course.  Course Dates:  Monday 21st May or Monday 16th July


RYA Level 3 – Better Sailing – 2 Days - £190.00 per person

This course follows on from Level 1 and Level 2. The aim of this course is to help build confidence, support development of good technique and enable a greater chance of enjoyable and successful independent sailing. You will cover rigging, revision and development of sailing techniques and manoeuvres, sailing theory and more.  Course Dates:  Thursday 24th May or Thursday 19th July


RYA Seamanship Skills – 3 Days - £250.00 per person

This course develops all the skills you learnt in Levels 1&2, takes you towards improving your sailing and boat handling skills and builds on your confidence and abilities to make seamanship decisions in moderate conditions.  Course Date:  Monday 3rd September

Thursday, 6th September - Introduction to Cabin Yachts  (2 days) *NEW

Monday, 24th September - Level 3 or Seamanship (3 days)

Thursday, 27th September - Introduction to Cabin Yachts (2 days) * NEW


Course Times

Our course days run from 9am - 5pm approx. and are mainly non-residential. We use our half-decker fleet but cabin yachts may be used if available.


Individual Instruction

  • Instructor - £100 per day
  • Half a day - £60 morning, or £50 afternoon
  • Instructor for RYA Course - £110 per day
    Please note: For Individual Instruction, you will need to ADD the cost of your yacht hire (as per our brochure)

All prices include instruction at our base, boats, provision of a safety boat cover, use of buoyancy jackets, books and certificate. (We reserve the right to cancel a course in cases of insufficient numbers)

Sailing Assistance

We can also provide a skipper to help you get the best from your boat and enjoy the Broads. A skipper would accompany you during the day, for as many days as you arrange. This could also include gaining an RYA qualification depending on your requirements.

Sailing Assistance for Groups

If required, we can assist in arranging skippers for group bookings. This is particularly relevant for schools and youth groups.
