Friends of the Hunter Fleet
Over 900 Friends play a very important role in keeping the Hunters Fleet running at its best with subscriptions and generous donations
The Friends of the Hunter Fleet was founded in 1996 to maintain a continuing link with the many people who made donations to help set up The Norfolk Heritage Fleet Trust but also acts as a very important User Group for the Hirers of the yachts and helps the work of the Trust. The Friends are very much a part of the Hunter’s Yard environment.
The Friends provide practical and financial support, which strengthens the aims of the Trust, which are:
- The preservation and maintenance of the Yard and Fleet
- To help ensure that the boats will be continue to be enjoyed by generations to come
- To preserve an important part of Broads history
- Support the use of the fleet by schools and youth groups
The nominal annual membership fee is a minimum of only £15. This covers the cost of newsletters but more importantly is used to help the fleet to stay `spick and span`. Over the years The Friends have bought awnings, oak logs, blocks, sails and a new sewing machine to name just a few of the items that have kept our classic, vintage yachts sailing.
Your Membership
Becoming a member will give you:
- Two social events each year: The AGM in the spring and an Autumn Sailing Picnic. At each event, you will have the chance to take the helm of one of these famous boats
- A week of Two Day Skippered sails: we sail from the yard on three routes, Hickling and Horsey, The Bure to Horning and The Ant to Barton Broad. You will stay in a Bed and Breakfast and be looked after by two of our experienced skippers
- In July 2018, we will be starting a new event: A treasure hunt using some of the yard’s half decker’s. You will follow clues to find your boat before sailing off to the Bed and Breakfast, picking up clues along the way
- A professionally produced newsletter in March, August and November. The newsletter contains articles from members as well as reports from the yard and friends committee
- We also have available Hunter Fleet branded clothing, mugs, calendars, DVD’s and burgees all for sale at the yard but also from the newsletter
- Probably the best reason for joining is to enjoy a discount on hiring Percy’s Ladies during Friends Week
