About Hunter`s YardAbout Hunters Yard

Sailing in the heart of the Norfolk Broads

Hunter’s Yard lies at the heart of the Norfolk Broads and is the home of our Fleet of 14 engineless*  cabin yachts  lovingly known as ‘Percy’s Lovely Ladies’ and 7 half-deckers (day boats); which includes Rebel Reveller and Valiant Rebel, the only 2 Rebels available on the Norfolk Broads for hire.

Our ‘Lovely Ladies’ were designed specifically to be sympathetic to these beautiful, unique waterways and are available for hire for short breaks to full weeks.

Our vintage sailing craft can deliver great sailing on our 2 berth (Hustler Class), 3 berth (Wood Class) or our 4 berth (Lullaby Class) yachts.  Our Fleet are engineless so you would need to be an experienced skipper to take one out.  Very good dinghy sailors do find our cabin yachts easy and a joy to handle.  The self tacking jib is found to be a great help for our solo skippers who often take our Hustler class out.

*Lucent, one of our 4 berth cabin yachts has, in 2018, been fitted with a Torqeedo electric engine and folding propellor.  This unit is not intended to replace sailing, but rather to enhance the experience by being used during more difficult moments, such as in place of quanting, or setting off from a lee shore.

Transporting you back to a bygone age

Not having an engine means these ‘ole gals’ can transport you back to a bygone age so you enjoy the wildlife, peace and tranquility the Norfolk Broads has to offer.

Our 7 half deckers boasts of 4 Gunter rigs and 3 single sail balanced lugs and are available for daily to full week hire.

Want to have a holiday and learn to sail?

Want to have a holiday and learn to sail at the same time? You can do that with us too!

We are owned by a charity set up to keep this unique engineless fleet of wooden boats together, called the Norfolk Heritage Fleet Trust.  And as part of the Trusts aim we give a 30% discount to schools and youth groups when they bring their students/youngsters with us.

We certainly fit into these eco-friendly days with our engineless boats so once you arrive at the Yard you are leaving virtually no carbon footprint.

Come enjoy the Norfolk Broads on one of ‘Percy’s Lovely Ladies’ and transport yourself back in time to a bygone age where ‘getting away from it all’ really meant just that.
